Does the state of Washington allow firepits?

Certification from The American National Standards Institute, (or ANSI certification) is required for all firepits within the US. This applies to fire features on public and private property, residentially and commercially It is also important to note if a firepit has CSA certification, as it indicates a product has been tested and certified by a reputable organisation. At Solus, it is extremely important to us that our products not only look beautiful, but are also safe. Does Seattle require a permit for firepits?

Yes! Solus firepits are permitted on private land as ANSI approved portable firepits do not require permits in Seattle.

If you are putting your firepit on a residential property, you do not need a permit to use it unless it exceeds 2ft in height and 3ft in width. However, if it does exceed 2ft x 3ft, you may need a permit from both the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency, and the Seattle Fire Department. Some permit requirements may also change based on the type of fuel connection you are using,  Solus firepits are available as both portable and fixed fuel connection.

The fire must be contained in an approved (ANSI) outdoor cooking appliance, or outdoor fireplace. If you are looking to install a firepit with a fixed propane or natural gas connection, you may be required to obtain a permit from the City of San Francisco Fire Department. All Solus firepits have ANSI approval throughout the USA, so the Solus firepit will make a great addition to any outdoor living space!
